A list of vital suggestions on how to write a 4 paragraph essay
Some people think that writing a four paragraph essay is an easy task and that this is because it is usually not very long. I mean you only have an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. How hard is that? But that is deceptive because as many people will tell you it can be very hard to write a successful short story just as it is to write a successful much longer novel. A short essay requires the same amount of expertise as it does for writing a major dissertation. The major difference being simply the length of the work or the number of words involved.
So here are some vital suggestions to help you make the most of writing a four paragraph essay.
- A great opening sentence
- Only two major points so choose well
- Find a new way to write a summary
Write an introduction which has a stunning opening sentence. It needs to hook the reader. It needs to grab their attention right from the beginning. Now this opening sentence could in fact be your thesis statement. This is a potted version of the main argument of your piece. But whatever you do make sure that your opening sentence in your opening paragraph, that is the introduction, stands out. You could start by asking a rhetorical question or even tell a story or anecdote or even quote an amazing fact related to your topic. In other words start with a bang.
The second point to understand is that you will only have one major point in each of your two body paragraphs. Think of that major point and state it at the beginning of each of your two body paragraphs. You can elaborate on those main points and you can even refer to your thesis statement. But only have one main point in each of your two body paragraphs.
Your fourth or final paragraph is your conclusion. Find a new way to talk about the thesis statement. Don't repeat the explanation you have given earlier in the essay. Use a new description. And whatever else you do, do not include any new material in your conclusion.
Don’t ever think that a short essay is an easy essay. You need the basics, the right structure and certainly the right proofreading and editing. It might be small by comparison but it still demands respect.
